ENGIM Albania promotes three established best practices that demonstrate our concrete impact on the territory: KeBuono, Centro Horizont, and We S(up)port Albania. These initiatives, developed in collaboration with strategic partners like Qendra Sociale Murialdo, transform social challenges into opportunities for inclusive and sustainable growth.
KeBuono: social enterprise against organized crime
KeBuono represents Albania’s first social enterprise established in a property confiscated from organized crime, inaugurated in Fier in July 2018. Promoted by ENGIM International in partnership with Qendra Sociale Murialdo and funded by the European Union through Partners Albania, the initiative repurposes a space previously controlled by the mafia to produce high-quality Italian pastry and gelato.
The main objective is to create stable and dignified employment for vulnerable groups: women victims of domestic violence and young students without job prospects.
Centro Horizont: inclusion for people with disabilities
Qendra Multifunksionale Horizont is Fier’s center dedicated to the social inclusion of children and youth with intellectual and physical disabilities, managed by Bashkia Fier with support from D.A.R. Fier and IADSA programs. ENGIM Albania closely collaborates with Qendra Sociale Murialdo to offer an integrated approach that includes physical rehabilitation, psychological support, vocational training, and triple school labs (rehabilitation-psychology-work).
The activities actively involve families, teachers, former center students, and local public schools, promoting personal autonomy, socialization, and job insertion for fragile individuals. Horizont addresses real community needs by creating aggregation spaces and practical skills development. The center is particularly active in awareness-raising, as shown by events for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and represents a model of public-private cooperation between Albanian institutions and Italian NGOs.
We S(up)port Albania: sport as a tool for female empowerment
We S(up)port Albania is a project funded by FIFA Foundation through GIZ and La Guilde, coordinated by ENGIM International with Qendra Sociale Murialdo as the local partner. The initiative uses sport to promote social inclusion and empowerment of women and girls in an Albanian context still marked by gender stereotypes and patriarchal violence. Key activities include: sports training (football and taekwondo) for 550 young people, inclusive summer camps, training for 30 vulnerable women and 20 coaches, plus awareness campaigns targeting families, schools, and communities to foster equal opportunities. Sport becomes a transformative tool for personal development, social cohesion, and gender equality, creating safe spaces where girls can build confidence and transversal skills. The project has already reached over 550 beneficiaries, significantly improving their access to sports and breaking down gender barriers in local communities.
